Emily Irene VanCamp initially aspired to become a professional actress however, she became intrigued following a visit to Katie in the Ladies Room film set. She started taking acting classes. She also got roles as a guest on a TV show in her native Canada. A few of the television shows she was a part of include Are You scared to be in the Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp had a huge career breakthrough when he was chosen to play Sam Dolan in WB's horror mystery series Glory Days. Though the show garnered positive reviews, its low ratings led to it being cancelled after just nine episodes. In spite of her May 12th, 1986 birthday she was offered the role of Everwood in its cast as Amy Abbott. The role earned her nominations for the Young Artist Award and four Teen Choice Awards.
